2013's Schedule Below...

Day One

Morning: Cathy Drumm - Western Dressage - 9 AM - 12 PM

Improve you and your horse's physical and mental preparedness for any activity from trail riding to top performance classes, and everything in between! She will demonstrate how applying dressage methods to the horse and rider's training will transform their way of going and level of performance. Nervous horses will relax, stiff horses will become more supple, resistant horses more compliant, disobedient horses better behaved etc. The riders will learn how their body position, aid application and general attitude can be enhanced to enable the horse to respond willingly to their commands, carry them in a more balanced and effective manner and thereby improve their performance dramatically.

Clinic 1: 9 AM - 10 AM Basic (Walk/Jog only) (limited to 2 riders)

Clinic 2: 10 AM - 11 AM Primary (Walk/Jog/Lope) (limited to 2 riders)

Clinic 3: 11 AM - 12 PM Beyond Primary (Lateral Work) (limited to 2 riders)

Riders $50/clinic; Auditors* $15 (covers entire day Saturday or $10 to audit only one clinic); $5 for age 9-18, 4-H leaders/members; UConn students; youth groups, senior citizens. UConn students in the Horse Practicum can use a horse for a $20 additional fee

Lunch for sale 11 AM - 1 PM by the UConn Equine Club !

12 PM UConn Morgan Drill Team Demonstration

Afternoon: Casey Sugarman, Behaviorist

Clinic 1: 1-2:30 PM Engage Shaping: The Ability to Convey an Idea

The Test: Can you teach someone to put their coat on inside out? But here’s the catch: you only have five minutes, you must use no body language, and you may only use one word out of the dictionary! Wonder why your animals don't understand you? Laugh your way through funny silent games to practice conveying your ideas clearly. Activities reveal your hidden communication blockers and teach you new abilities. Experience first hand the causes of frustration and anxiety in your animal students. Avoid confusion and manipulation, using only timing to influence your counterpart's decisions. Way beyond clicker training, you'll learn about ideas like “photonegative yes” and “process focus.” This class is a must for new owners and expert trainers alike.

Clinic 2: 2:30-3 PM Watch a UConn Horse at liberty in the arena being taught by Casey Sugarman, demonstrating fast learning speed and "cognitive concept building"

Clinic 3: 3-4 PM (or last question) Casey Sugarman will partially assess your problem horses as time allows, and will answer all of your questions. Casey will stay late.

$10 to audit this session, or if you audited in the morning, it is included
